Mid-Senior Automation Engineer - Steel Mill Operations

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Mid-Senior Automation Engineer to join our team at Rocky Mountain Steel Mills. This Automation Engineer remote position will play a crucial role in supporting our highly automated steelmaking and rolling mill operations. You will be responsible for designing, improving, and maintaining control systems that ensure our production runs safely, efficiently, and reliably.

What You'll Do

• Support automation systems for steelmaking, casting, and rolling mill operations.
• Design, develop, and implement control systems (both hardware and software).
• Troubleshoot and improve PLC and HMI systems, particularly with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation.
• Analyze production processes from scrap melting through to finished products.
• Develop performance metrics and connect plant control systems with business systems.
• Provide ongoing maintenance support and see automation projects through to completion.
• Assist with project management and provide on-call support as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automation Engineering (or equivalent).
• 2–4 years of experience in industrial or heavy manufacturing environments.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, drives, and HMI systems.
• Ability to read electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings.
• Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
