Mechanical Designer - Product Definition (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Designer - Product Definition to join our team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work remotely while contributing to critical projects in national security. As a Mechanical Designer, you will utilize your expertise in 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD), hardware design, and engineering concepts to ensure that product definitions meet stringent requirements and design standards.

What You'll Do

• Collaborate with weapon engineers and designers to verify that product definitions are accurate and compliant with design standards.
• Utilize Creo CAD software and PDMLink for checking models and drawings, ensuring form, fit, and function.
• Conduct tolerance and stack analyses to maintain compliance with the latest design standards.
• Guide teams through design iterations to address potential engineering defects.
• Train junior staff on Model Based Definition (MBD) and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience for Engineering Technologist 2; 8+ years for Engineering Technologist 3.
• Proficient in Creo CAD software and PDMLink, with a strong understanding of MBD and GD&T.
• Experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, inspection, assembly, and testing.
• Familiarity with ASME Y14 standards, particularly Y14.5 - 2009 and Y14.41 MBD.

Nice to Have

• Experience in both weapons and non-weapons design environments.
• Previous model/drawing checking experience in the Nuclear Security Enterprise.
• Active Q clearance.
