GNC Engineer: Autopilot/Guidance - Remote Opportunities
About the Role
We are seeking a talented GNC Engineer: Autopilot/Guidance to join our innovative team at Northrop Grumman. As a GNC Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and validating algorithms for guidance, navigation, and control across various platforms. What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and implement algorithms and software for guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) across a variety of platforms including aircraft, missiles, and spacecraft.
- Build and maintain high-fidelity simulation tools to model powered and coast phases, Earth orbit, interplanetary cruise, and orbital insertion.
- Perform verification and testing activities, including unit tests and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations.
- Conduct statistical processing of sensor measurements and integrate processed data into navigation algorithms.
- Formulate guidance equations and trajectory-generation logic to achieve specific objectives.
- Develop control laws and conduct control-system analyses for implementation on aircraft and spacecraft.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate system requirements into functional GNC solutions.
- Support post-flight analysis to validate algorithm performance and iterate on designs for continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of professional experience or a Master’s degree with no experience for Level 2; for Level 3, a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience or a Master’s with 3 years.
- Proven experience in designing and testing guidance algorithms for guided missiles or interceptors.
- Hands-on experience with missile autopilot systems and control-scheme architectures.
- Strong grasp of missile control theory and proficiency in C++, MATLAB, and Python.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
Nice to Have
- Experience with hypersonic missile systems and the AEGIS weapon system.
- Expertise in infrared (IR) discrimination and tracking techniques.
- Familiarity with state-estimation and state-propagation methods.
