Avionics Architect - Remote Opportunity
About the Role
At Kepler Communications, we're not just imagining the future of on-demand space connectivity - we're leading it! We are seeking an Avionics Architect to join our team in a remote capacity. This role is pivotal in defining and driving the end-to-end avionics architecture for our next-generation satellite avionics platform. If you’re ready to reach higher, move faster, and do work that shapes the future space economy - this is your launchpad.
What You'll Do
- Own the top-level avionics architecture for a satellite platform, including system decomposition, interface strategy, and architectural trade studies.
- Define architectures that support high-speed networking payloads (up to 100G), backplanes, management networks, and system boot and recovery concepts.
- Lead the design of robust Failure Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR) systems, ensuring safe-mode behavior and firmware recovery across the spacecraft.
- Document and maintain the avionics technical baseline, including architecture diagrams and design justifications.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews and integration planning.
- Perform engineering analyses including reliability, radiation tolerance, and signal integrity.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with networking, GNC, RF, software, and mechanical teams.
- Support supplier selection for critical avionics functions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; Master's Degree is a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in spacecraft avionics or complex embedded hardware systems.
- Demonstrated experience architecting complex multi-board systems.
- Strong background in high-speed networking architecture.
- Experience with system architecture for compute platforms using modern SoCs and FPGAs.
- Ability to evaluate architectural trade-offs across various constraints.
- Strong communication skills and ability to produce clear technical documentation.
- Comfortable operating across system-level architecture and detailed interface design.
Nice to Have
- Experience in aerospace or high-reliability environments.
- Low-level electrical design experience.
- Familiarity with space standards (NASA or ECSS).
- Experience working with Altium.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation with a robust equity plan.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Unlimited vacation and supportive parental leave policy.
- Relocation packages available for approved roles.
- $1,500 annual professional development fund.
- Fully stocked office kitchen with snacks and drinks.
- Company-wide events to stay connected.
- We’re a certified Great Place to Work® for five years in a row!
This Avionics Architect role offers a unique opportunity to lead the architecture of satellite systems in a remote setting. With competitive compensation and a focus on innovation, it's a great chance to make a significant impact in the aerospace industry.
