AI Engineer - Remote Position at Teufel
About the Role
As an AI Engineer at Teufel, you will build the technical foundation that enables AI to work reliably across our business. This AI Engineer remote position allows you to operate between core IT and AI-driven use cases, evaluating modern models and platforms, designing integrations, and connecting them to our data and systems in a secure and scalable way while ensuring that AI at Teufel is technically sound, efficient, and fit for production.
What You'll Do
- Continuously assess state-of-the-art AI models, platforms, and solutions (e.g., frontier foundation models, open-weight models, multimodal systems).
- Understand current AI technology (training, inference, tokenization, embeddings, context windows, fine-tuning, adapters).
- Evaluate strengths, limitations, trade-offs, and risks of different AI approaches for Teufel use cases.
- Act as the technical translator and advisor between IT and business stakeholders using or requesting AI capabilities.
- Support PoCs and pilots with a clear path to production readiness.
- Provide technical guidance and guardrails for AI usage in departments.
- Define and implement best practices for AI integration.
- Collaborate closely with our Data Engineering team to ensure data quality, lineage, access control, and auditability.
Requirements
- Strong background in IT, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or Cloud Architecture.
- Deep understanding of Modern AI / ML concepts (LLMs, transformers, diffusion, multimodal models).
- Practical knowledge of vector databases, embedding strategies, search & retrieval systems, prompt orchestration frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with Cloud platforms, APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Ability to explain AI behavior and risks to non-AI experts—without oversimplifying.
- Professional communication skills in English; German skills are a plus.
Nice to Have
- Experience in a hybrid working environment.
- Familiarity with AI-related protocols and standards (e.g., MCP, UCP).
- Knowledge of governance, privacy, EU AI Act, GDPR, NIS2 implications.
