Working Student Software Engineer - Remote Opportunity
About the Role
We are looking for a Working Student Software Engineer to join our team at 1KOMMA5°. This remote position offers you the chance to contribute to the energy system of the future, helping to transition 1.5 million households to renewable energies by 2030. You will work alongside experienced engineers and product managers, gaining hands-on experience while building impactful solutions.
What You'll Do
- Support the development team as a Full-stack Engineer, contributing to real-world features within a collaborative, agile environment.
- Assist in building and maintaining core business systems, gaining hands-on experience with both scalable backend services and responsive frontends.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to break down technical tasks and implement solutions for defined business requirements.
- Apply and learn best practices in clean architecture, component reusability, and modern UI patterns using frameworks like React or Next.js.
- Contribute to code quality by writing unit tests, participating in code reviews, and learning the ropes of CI/CD and observability pipelines.
- Help improve the developer experience by assisting with documentation, automating small-scale workflows, and identifying areas to reduce technical debt.
- Develop professional autonomy by managing your tasks effectively in an asynchronous environment, providing regular updates on your progress.
- Gain insight into the product lifecycle by participating in technical feasibility discussions and aligning your development tasks with team milestones.
Requirements
- You are enrolled at a university and can contribute 20 hours per week.
- You are studying a relevant degree program (e.g., Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Science).
- Foundational experience writing clean and testable code in TypeScript, with a basic understanding of modern frontend frameworks and backend logic.
- A solid grasp of web fundamentals, including API interaction (RESTful or GraphQL) and how data is structured and modeled.
- The motivation to learn how to own features from start to finish.
- A product-oriented mindset and an interest in how technical decisions impact the final user experience and business value.
- High curiosity and initiative to explore new tools, stay up to date with engineering trends, and suggest improvements to team workflows.
- Excellent written and spoken English and a valid residency/work permit for Germany.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Next.js and NestJS frameworks.
- Familiarity with cloud services such as Google Cloud or Vercel.
- Knowledge of observability tools like Datadog.
