VP Engineering - Transformative Leadership Role

About the Role

We are seeking a VP Engineering remote to lead and transform our Engineering organization at Oodle Finance. This pivotal role is designed for an experienced leader who can stabilize delivery, inspire our engineering teams, and drive technical modernization. As a VP Engineering remote, you will report directly to the CPTO and be responsible for the performance, culture, and commercial effectiveness of our engineering team, which consists of approximately 45 engineers.

What You'll Do

• Stabilize delivery and reduce operational noise with clear ownership and accountability across Engineering.
• Reset Engineering culture, quality standards, and leadership capability.
• Own the Engineering cost base, improving efficiency and articulating how Engineering creates business value.
• Partner with Product and Finance to build investment cases for platforms, tooling, and technical debt.
• Design and implement a fit-for-purpose Target Operating Model, including introducing offshore capabilities where beneficial.
• Improve release reliability, testing maturity, and incident management while modernizing core platforms.
• Increase engineering productivity through better tooling, automation, and developer experience.
• Act as the senior technical lead, ensuring architectural decisions align with business priorities.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading engineering organizations of 40-60 people in turnaround or transformation environments.
• Strong technical credibility across architecture, delivery, and quality practices.
• Demonstrated ability to improve engineering effectiveness without relying on headcount growth.
• Experience in owning engineering costs and building business cases for investment.
• A track record of operating model design, including offshore and nearshore capabilities.
• Ability to understand engineering economics, trade-offs, and ROI.
• Comfortable making tough performance and prioritization decisions.
• Ability to influence C-Suite stakeholders effectively.

Nice to Have

• Experience with modern software development methodologies.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies and DevOps practices.
• Previous experience in the FinTech industry.
