We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Back-end (Identity Engineering) Remote to join our team at Affirm. What You'll Do

• Set the technical strategy for your team over the course of the year, aligning it with critical business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate across product management, design, and analytics teams to ensure technical sustainability and manage risks effectively.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating for technical solutions and operational processes.
• Take ownership of your team’s operations, ensuring monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, and testing are in place to support ongoing availability.
• Foster a culture of quality by establishing code review and design standards, and advocating for them through writing and tech talks.
• Develop talent within your team by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
• Proven track record in developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Experience in delivering major features and system components through well-defined technical and execution plans.
• Ability to write high-quality code that is easily understood and utilized by others.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Docker and Java.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices.
