Staff Distributed Systems Engineer - Blockchain Interoperability

About the Role

We’re looking for an incredible Staff Distributed Systems Engineer to help us build the future of blockchain interoperability. This remote Staff Distributed Systems Engineer position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the Metalayer, our innovative product designed to simplify interoperability for our network of over 75 rollups and dapp developers. You will focus on designing and implementing the smart contracts and off-chain infrastructure that power cross-chain interactions.

What You'll Do

• Help architect the Caldera Metalayer, a high-performance, stack-agnostic blockchain interop solution.
• Develop our reference relayer/solver using languages like Go, Rust, and Solidity.
• Write efficient and secure EVM smart contracts in Solidity that are used to operate the interop system and be consumed by other developers.
• Drive the technical direction, establish roadmaps, and communicate with internal and external partners to help Caldera succeed.
• Tackle challenges like designing secure bridging mechanisms and implementing efficient proof verification.

Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering experience, including at least 2 years developing high-availability, distributed systems.
• Deep knowledge of Go, Rust, or similar languages.
• Experience building complex Ethereum dapps with Solidity or Yul.
• Comfortable building systems that secure users’ funds.
• Passionate about writing fast, well-optimized, well-tested, clean code.
• Confident in performance optimization, identifying bottlenecks and scalability concerns.

Nice to Have

• Experience implementing MEV/intents solvers.
• Familiarity with consensus algorithms (e.g., Paxos/Raft, pBFT, Tendermint).
• Understanding of tradeoffs in the blockchain interop space and advancements like ZK, preconfirmations, and fast finality.
• Significant open-source contributions in blockchain clients/node software, databases, networking, or programming languages/frameworks.
