About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Remote to join our team at Optum Technology. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting critical applications in production. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in cloud-enabled systems and US Healthcare Insurance to build innovative solutions that help improve health outcomes.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and manage business rules in IBM ODM, including rule authoring and decision tables.
  • Design and build REST and GraphQL APIs using Java.
  • Implement Kafka producers and consumers with a focus on reliable message processing.
  • Set up and manage deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions.
  • Write JUnit tests to ensure high code coverage and identify issues using static and dynamic code analysis tools.
  • Work with MySQL to design high-performance database schemas optimized for transactional workloads.
  • Deploy services on Kubernetes platforms, including configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Utilize observability tools like Splunk and Grafana to monitor application performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT with a focus on application engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and APIs.
  • Solid experience in Java, REST APIs, microservices, and SQL.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and their application in engineering workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with global teams.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of US Healthcare insurance, particularly payer-side claims processing.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions.
  • Exposure to Kafka or other streaming platforms.
