Senior Mechanical Engineer - Industrial Automation

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at AAE North America, where your expertise in mechanical engineering will play a crucial role in shaping the future of industrial automation. This Senior Mechanical Engineer remote position offers an exciting opportunity to lead innovation in designing high-performance equipment.

What You'll Do

  • Lead complex automation projects from concept through installation, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that meet client needs.
  • Design and develop complex pneumatic/electromechanical machinery and robotic cells using SolidWorks.
  • Integrate robots and material handling systems into automated production lines.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee outsourced fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and perform risk assessments.
  • Oversee equipment build, testing, and debugging, leading cross-team fixes.
  • Document equipment specifications, test plans, and user manuals.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of mechanical design experience, with at least 5 years in a robotic systems integrator environment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD/PDM and experience with GD&T.
  • Knowledge of sizing actuators, servos, sensors, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience in robotic cell design, including safety and risk assessment.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with sales and project teams.
  • Experience with machine vision and 3D sensing integration is a plus.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Fanuc and Universal Robots system design.
  • Experience with simulation software and programming.
  • Knowledge of compliance standards such as OSHA, ANSI, CE, and ISO.

This position is based in our Morrisville, NC location. While remote work is not available, we are happy to discuss relocation support as part of your transition to our growing team.
