Senior Java DevOps Software Engineer - Aerospace & Defense

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Java DevOps Software Engineer to join our team at Raytheon. This role is crucial for designing, developing, and testing Java code in a Linux, Agile, DevOps environment. As a Senior Java DevOps Software Engineer remote, you will be at the forefront of aerospace and defense technology, contributing to our Satellite Ground Systems Team, which ensures communication, surveillance, and defense capabilities through cutting-edge satellite systems.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain advanced software applications for our Satellite Ground Systems.
• Collaborate closely with systems engineers, hardware designers, and other software engineers to deliver reliable and high-performance software solutions.
• Implement and test Java and Python-based applications and software components for satellite ground systems.
• Work in parallel with legacy platform teams to migrate workloads onto your pipelines.
• Define software requirements and specifications in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Modify existing code as necessary to ensure software performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities.
• Contribute to program and project milestones under the guidance of your supervisor.

Requirements

• Active and transferable Top Secret security clearance required prior to start date.
• U.S. citizenship is mandatory, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
• A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
• Five years of experience in object-oriented software design and development using Java in a Linux or UNIX environment.
• Experience with unit testing tools (e.g., JUnit) and Agile/DevOps methodologies.
• Proficiency in containerization technologies and Kubernetes.
• Experience working in an AWS environment and with Angular.
• Familiarity with secure coding practices, especially in a defense or aerospace setting.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Docker, Maven, Jira, Git/GitLab, BitBucket, and Confluence.
• Knowledge of SQL and security certification (Security+ preferred).
• Experience with satellite communication systems and protocols.
• Master’s degree in a relevant STEM field.
