Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to join our team at GovCIO. This remote position offers an exciting opportunity to enhance digital financial management tools for Veterans and their families. As a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer, you will design, develop, test, and deploy new features that help users manage their VA debts effectively. This role is ideal for someone with strong backend experience who is also capable of working across the tech stack.

What You'll Do

• Design and code applications following specifications using appropriate tools.
• Maintain and modify existing software applications, ensuring high performance and responsiveness.
• Analyze system factors, including input and output requirements, and information flow.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to standards and specifications.
• Contribute to building, refactoring, and maintaining React and Rails components, APIs, and backend services.
• Design and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests using frameworks such as RSpec.
• Incorporate accessibility standards into development processes.
• Apply DevOps practices (CI/CD, monitoring, cloud services) to ensure reliable delivery and operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
• 5+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails and modern JavaScript frameworks.
• 3+ years of production experience with React.js.
• Experience with cloud environments (AWS or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of design patterns and software development principles.
• Experience with DevOps processes and tools (CI/CD, monitoring, automation).
• Ability to work independently on complex tasks and collaborate effectively.
• Must have lived and worked in the United States for at least the last year.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Sidekiq and Redis.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools, especially Datadog.
• Experience with AI development tools (Copilot, Cursor).
• Contributions to open-source projects.
