Senior Data Engineer - Data Platform for Crypto Innovation

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer - Data Platform to join our innovative team at Kraken. In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing and implementing scalable data systems that support our mission to accelerate global crypto adoption.

What You'll Do

• Build and maintain high-performance data pipelines that collect, transform, and load data from various internal and external systems.
• Ensure the reliability and scalability of our data infrastructure, enabling teams across Kraken to access clean and consistent data.
• Drive the development of data systems to achieve near real-time processing capabilities.
• Support the design and deployment of a distributed data store that serves as the central source of truth for the organization.
• Develop and customize self-service tools to help data consumers extract and analyze data from our extensive internal data store.
• Evaluate new technologies and build prototypes for continuous improvements in data engineering.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather business requirements for data sourcing.
• Utilize your expertise in data-lake and data-warehousing technologies to enhance our data platform.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, DWH Engineer, or Software Engineer.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Scala, with additional languages being a plus.
• Experience with data-lake and data-warehousing technologies (e.g., Presto, Athena, Glue).
• Strong SQL and data manipulation skills using frameworks like Spark/PySpark.
• Expertise in Apache Spark or similar Big Data technologies, with a proven record of handling high volumes of datasets.
• Familiarity with ETL processes and tools like Airflow.
• Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka or Apache Flink is a bonus.

Nice to Have

• Experience in business requirements gathering for data sourcing.
• Knowledge of data modeling best practices.
