Senior Backend Engineer - Web3 & DeFi Focus

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team in the high-growth Web3 and DeFi sector. This remote position allows you to work from anywhere, ideally within +/- 3 hours of CET, and offers a competitive salary ranging from $90K to $150K. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing and operating complex systems that power our primary products and customer-facing solutions.

What You'll Do

• System Architecture: Design, build, and maintain scalable distributed backend systems that support core platform and product capabilities.
• End-to-End Ownership: Manage backend services throughout their entire lifecycle, from initial architecture and implementation to monitoring and long-term reliability.
• Product Collaboration: Partner with product and engineering peers to actively shape product decisions and strategy.
• Web3 Integration: Build and evolve platform backend components, including protocol integrations and reliable interactions with smart contracts.
• Engineering Standards: Ensure high standards of code quality, performance, security, and observability across all services.
• Operational Excellence: Operate effectively in a fast-paced startup environment, balancing development velocity with technical correctness.
• Innovation: Leverage AI-assisted tools to improve development velocity and personal productivity.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience designing and building distributed backend systems.
• A strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and software design patterns.
• Professional experience with Python 3.
• Proven experience with containerized systems (Docker & Kubernetes), databases (Postgres/SQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra), and cloud environments (AWS).
• Experience with observability tools such as Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Clear, proactive communication skills suited for a distributed, async-first team.
• Hands-on experience with blockchain systems, dApps, or smart contracts is highly preferred.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of Golang.
• Prior experience in a high-autonomy startup environment.
• Location within time zones close to Europe (CET/EET).
