Senior Backend Engineer - Remote Gaming Development
About the Role
We are looking for a deeply talented, fully remote Senior Backend Engineer to join our team at The Multiplayer Group (MPG). As a Senior Backend Engineer remote, you will be a key player in creating world-class multiplayer experiences through our Co-Dev and Full-Dev partnerships. You will work within a diverse, global team that prioritizes connection and collaboration, both online and in person.
What You'll Do
- Construct systems, write code, and manage deployments as part of your individual contributions.
- Collaborate with the team lead and stakeholders to estimate and prioritize work effectively.
- Work alongside peers to iterate on solutions that meet project requirements.
- Keep project leads and producers informed of revised estimates and delivery timelines.
- Promote and maintain high standards in processes such as tests, CI/CD, and documentation.
- Support team members in their day-to-day work and help them overcome challenges.
- Understand, maintain, and expand existing code while developing new features or systems.
Requirements
- Experience in game development with at least two commercial game titles, focusing on server backends for AAA games or similar.
- Proven track record of releasing at least two backend services with a significant number of concurrent users.
- Production experience with Java, Golang, C#, C++, or Kotlin; familiarity with Python, Node.js, and React is desirable.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure; AWS Certification is a plus.
- Proficiency in infrastructure as code tools, e.g., Terraform.
- Ability to create supporting documentation and designs, and to discuss technical matters clearly.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work autonomously.
- Experience in building distributed applications and a strong attention to detail.
Nice to Have
- Demonstrable database experience with both SQL and NoSQL.
- Understanding of how backend services integrate with game engines like Unreal or Unity.
- Experience with high-scale distributed applications with a user base in the hundreds of thousands.
- Knowledge of using LLMs to process and query structured and unstructured data.
