Senior Backend Engineer - Java & AI Tools

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join Secfix, a fully remote startup revolutionizing compliance automation for small and medium-sized businesses in Europe. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a crucial role in shaping our product and ensuring it meets the needs of our customers. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and be part of a dynamic team dedicated to making a significant impact in the compliance space.

What You'll Do

• Act as the go-to person for all backend-related tasks within your product area.
• Collaborate closely with the CTO and Tech Lead to set the technical direction of our projects.
• Work alongside product and design teams to identify, plan, design, build, and ship features on schedule.
• Deploy, monitor, troubleshoot, debug, support, maintain, and evolve features and code under your responsibility.
• Leverage AI-powered engineering tools like Cursor and Claude to accelerate development, debugging, and testing.
• Own and maintain product and technical documentation, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
• Support and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration.
• Adhere to the company's culture and communication guidelines, promoting a positive remote work environment.

Requirements

• 5-8 years of industry experience as a backend or product engineer, with a strong focus on building user-facing products.
• Proficient in Java, with strong object-oriented programming fundamentals, and experience with Spring Boot and Hibernate.
• Solid understanding of relational database design and SQL optimization.
• Experience in testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting backend systems.
• Ability to design and build scalable backend systems that can handle increased usage and features.
• Familiarity with Golang and/or TypeScript is a plus.
• Demonstrated experience in owning features from conception to production delivery.
• Strong communication skills, particularly in a remote work environment, with an emphasis on proactive collaboration.
