About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team at Digital Waffle. This remote position focuses on AI-assisted development, allowing you to leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance your workflow. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a crucial role in building and evolving our platform, which is heavily based on TypeScript and JavaScript, while also integrating legacy PHP systems.

What You'll Do

• Build and maintain backend APIs and services across a modern TypeScript/JavaScript stack.
• Collaborate with legacy PHP systems to modernize and enhance the platform.
• Utilize AI engineering tools, such as Claude and ChatGPT, to accelerate development processes.
• Design scalable services and establish clean system boundaries.
• Integrate third-party APIs, including AI and analytics services.
• Work closely with product and UX teams to shape features from the early stages.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and guide the technical direction of the project.

Requirements

• Strong commercial backend engineering experience.
• Proficient in TypeScript and JavaScript within production environments.
• Experience working with or alongside PHP systems.
• Hands-on experience with AI engineering tools in your development workflow.
• Strong API development skills and a solid understanding of system design.
• Experience integrating third-party services and APIs.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced product environments.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker.
• Knowledge of CI/CD practices.
