About the Role
We are seeking a motivated R&D Cybersecurity Engineer to join our team at Sandia National Laboratories. This remote R&D Cybersecurity Engineer position offers you the chance to contribute to national security by designing and securing high-consequence digital systems. What You'll Do
- Assist in security assessments, red-teaming exercises, and technical evaluations to identify and mitigate vulnerability risks.
- Support the design, analysis, and validation of security implementations for digital systems.
- Help develop workflows that automate cyber risk discovery and support verification processes to improve trusted operation of mission-relevant systems.
- Explore and integrate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance security analysis.
- Conduct hands-on experimentation and prototyping using simulation and emulation platforms to validate security concepts.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts on modernization and national security programs.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of security policies, standards, and best practices.
- Engage in research and development initiatives that advance digital systems hardening.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
- Experience in reverse engineering, software vulnerability assessment, or computer networking.
- Proficiency in scripting or high-level programming languages such as Python, Java, or C/C++.
- Familiarity with secure-system design principles and information assurance principles.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting technical ideas clearly.
- Hands-on experience with security testing techniques such as penetration testing or fuzzing.
- Interest in emerging technologies like AI and machine learning applied to security.
Nice to Have
- Graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Familiarity with hardware description languages and digital IC product lifecycles.
- Knowledge of formal methods and verification tools.
- Experience in programming languages such as Rust or hardware design languages.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
