Principal Software Engineer - Automotive Linux Systems (Remote)
About the Role
Join Red Hat as a Principal Software Engineer specializing in Automotive Linux Systems. In this remote position, you will play a pivotal role in the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) revolution, helping major automotive players transition from proprietary systems to modern, open-source architectures. This Principal Software Engineer role offers the flexibility to work from home in South Korea, with occasional travel for high-impact workshops.
What You'll Do
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to automotive partners, explaining complex open-source concepts and assisting in designing next-generation In-Vehicle architectures.
- Scope and decompose large engineering tasks, diving deep into low-level system issues such as Kernel, BSP, and performance, providing hands-on solutions.
- Serve as the critical communication link between Korean automotive customers and Red Hat's global engineering teams, translating requirements into technical tickets.
- Collaborate with upstream open-source communities to proactively advance the product and drive cross-functional projects.
- Mentor and guide the team on industry best practices, presenting and blogging about technical changes to internal and external audiences.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with Linux systems programming, debugging, and architecture.
- Fluency in Korean (Native/Business Fluent) and English (Advanced Business Fluency, CEFR C1+).
- Strong programming and debugging skills in C and Python.
- Experience with Linux Containers (OCI) and understanding of cloud-native paradigms.
- Ability to manage expectations with partners and present technical roadmaps effectively.
- Experience working autonomously with geographically distributed teams across multiple time zones.
Nice To Have
- Experience with modern systems languages like Rust, especially for Linux.
- Familiarity with embedded build systems such as Yocto and OSTree.
- Understanding of hypervisors (KVM) and VirtIO.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift.
- Involvement in open-source communities and understanding of the "Upstream First" philosophy.
