Principal Java Software Engineer - Onsite Role

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Principal Java Software Engineer to join our team at Raytheon. This is an onsite position located in State College, PA, Ft. Meade, MD, or Aurora, CO. As a Principal Java Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and test Java code in a Linux, Agile, DevOps environment. This role is critical in ensuring communication, surveillance, and defense capabilities through cutting-edge satellite systems.

What You'll Do

• Design, implement, and test Java-based applications and software components for satellite ground systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and specifications.
• Work with previously written code and make modifications as necessary to enhance performance.
• Ensure software performance, reliability, and scalability in a fast-paced environment.
• Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities.
• Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the guidance of your immediate supervisor.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in Java and satellite technology to drive innovation.

Requirements

• Active and transferable TS/SCI with Polygraph U.S. government issued security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
• A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in object-oriented software design and development using Java in a Linux environment.
• Familiarity with unit testing tools (e.g., JUnit) and scripting languages such as Perl or Python.
• Experience in an Agile/DevOps environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Ansible, Jenkins, containers, and the Spring Framework.
• Security+ certification.
• Experience using the Atlassian tool suite.
• Familiarity with satellite communication systems and protocols.
• Understanding of secure coding practices, especially in a defense or aerospace setting.
