Physics-Aware AI/​ML Researcher - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a Physics-Aware AI/ML Researcher to join our innovative team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This remote position offers an exciting opportunity to design and implement trustworthy AI/ML algorithms that address complex scientific and national-security challenges. As a part of the Physics-Aware AI/ML Team, you will engage in cutting-edge research across various fields, including radiation transport, fluid dynamics, and astrophysics.

What You'll Do

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance simulation capabilities for complex physical systems.
• Contribute to the development of innovative physics-aware AI/ML methods and publish peer-reviewed research.
• Utilize AI/ML techniques to solve inverse problems and develop digital twin technologies.
• Design and implement reduced-order models and multi-scale AI/ML methods.
• Mentor junior researchers and lead project development efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with at least 4 years of relevant experience; a Master's or PhD is preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in physics-informed AI/ML methodologies.
• Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or Fortran, with experience in ML libraries like PyTorch or JAX.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with diverse teams.
• Ability to work in high-performance computing environments and handle large datasets.

Nice to Have

• Experience with uncertainty quantification (UQ) and verification and validation (V&V) of AI/ML models.
• Proven track record of transitioning research prototypes to production-ready tools.
• Experience in mentoring and leading technical projects.
