Legal Counsel – Commercial (Fintech and Payments) - Remote

About the Role

Shift4 is seeking a Legal Counsel – Commercial (Fintech and Payments) remote to join our innovative team. As a leader in commerce-enabling technology, we simplify complex payment ecosystems and power billions of transactions annually. This role is open to candidates based in Europe, including the UK, Spain, Italy, Malta, or Germany.

What You'll Do

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of complex commercial agreements, including partnership and client contracts.
• Support the sales team by structuring deals, enabling innovation, and driving commercial initiatives while identifying legal risks and providing practical solutions.
• Provide data protection and privacy advice, including GDPR and other applicable frameworks.
• Collaborate with various stakeholders across the company to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
• Develop templates, training materials, and draft privacy-related policies.

Requirements

• Law degree with 5+ years of experience practicing law in Europe, either at a law firm or as in-house counsel in the fintech or payments environment.
• Strong experience in commercial contracts, negotiations, and data protection/privacy law (e.g., GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA).
• Excellent drafting and negotiation skills with a business-focused approach.
• Fluent in English (both written and spoken); additional language proficiency in Spanish, Italian, German, or other European languages is a significant advantage.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, global environment.
