Lead PHP Developer - API Focus (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Lead PHP Developer to join our team remotely. In this role, you will focus on developing high-performance, scalable PHP-based backend services and APIs. As a Lead PHP Developer, you will ensure that our systems meet the needs of our users while maintaining high standards of code quality through testing, code reviews, and observability practices.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and operate high-performance PHP-based backend services and APIs.
  • Ensure code quality through testing, code reviews, and observability practices.
  • Analyze and optimize application performance and database queries to improve response times and resource efficiency.
  • Actively participate in architectural and design decisions to ensure system maintainability and resilience.
  • Collaborate closely with an agile team, sharing knowledge and supporting less experienced colleagues.

Requirements

  • Completed degree in (Business) Computer Science or Information Technology, or equivalent technical training with several years of development experience.
  • Extensive experience in developing complex system landscapes.
  • Strong knowledge of relational and multimodal databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server) with a focus on data modeling and performance.
  • Experience with testing strategies, CI/CD processes, and observability concepts and tools such as OpenTelemetry.
  • Several years of PHP expertise in developing modern backend and frontend systems, as well as experience with message brokers like Kafka.
  • Fluent in both German and English.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in leading development teams.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
