Lead Electrical Engineer - Hardware Design for AI Manufacturing

About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer (Hardware Design) remote to join Freeform, a pioneering company that builds AI-native manufacturing systems. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and developing custom electronics and compute systems that power our innovative metal 3D printing factory systems. You will tackle complex challenges in high-performance compute, embedded hardware, and autonomous robotic systems, using a first-principles approach to problem-solving.

What You'll Do

• Rapidly design, develop, and test reliable electronics and compute systems for complex autonomous systems.
• Drive electrical architecture, product requirements, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, prototyping, and debugging.
• Model and simulate circuit designs for performance analysis.
• Act as a technical lead, ensuring a continuous rate of innovation and driving project schedules.
• Collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines to deliver high-quality products.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of professional experience in designing complex electrical hardware.
• Strong background in electrical engineering fundamentals and a first-principles approach to problem-solving.
• Experience as a technical lead and system owner, responsible for architectural decisions and execution quality.

Nice to Have

• Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in electrical engineering.
• Experience with heterogeneous compute environments, including FPGA and GPU systems.
• Familiarity with sensors, high-speed cameras, and embedded microcontroller design.
• Knowledge of industrial automation technologies and robotics.
