Forward Deployed Data Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Forward Deployed Data Engineer to join our team at Nimble, where you will have the opportunity to work remotely while making a significant impact in the manufacturing sector. As a Forward Deployed Data Engineer, you will engage directly with clients to improve operational efficiency and drive data-driven decision-making.

What You'll Do

• Work closely with manufacturing clients to understand their production workflows and operational constraints.
• Build strong relationships with plant managers and technical stakeholders to translate operational problems into structured analytical solutions.
• Collaborate with client IT teams to ensure reliable data access and integration.
• Explore and understand complex ERP, MES, and production databases to identify relevant data sources.
• Build and maintain SQL- and Python-based data pipelines to collect, transform, and validate operational datasets.
• Investigate inconsistencies and operational anomalies within client datasets to improve data quality and reliability.
• Develop analytical models and data-driven insights to optimize production throughput and reduce costs.
• Support change management and process improvements within manufacturing environments.

Requirements

• Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.
• Proficiency in Python for data analysis and automation.
• Experience building data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Familiarity with statistical analysis, forecasting, and machine learning techniques.
• Experience with data visualization tools is a plus.
• Understanding of common manufacturing KPIs such as OEE and throughput.
• Comfortable working onsite with clients and in ambiguous environments.
• Strong problem-solving mindset and structured thinking.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with data transformation tools such as dbt.
• Background in manufacturing, supply chain, or logistics datasets.
