European Sovereign Cloud Systems Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a European Sovereign Cloud Systems Engineer to join our team at Amazon Web Services (AWS). This remote position offers a unique opportunity to be part of the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) initiative. As a Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services exclusively for EU customers.

What You'll Do

• Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams.
• Contribute to the enhancement of day-to-day operations and ensure improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
• Engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours.
• Review operational health and write actionable bug reports for anomalies.
• Execute changes following a change management process for production systems.
• Develop scripts to diagnose and resolve operational issues more efficiently.

Requirements

• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Must be a national of an EU member state and residing in the EU.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Ruby.
• Knowledge of Linux and networking fundamentals.
• Experience operating high-availability, distributed software applications.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, or Ansible.

Nice to Have

• Experience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or Grafana.
• Ability to execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices.
• Knowledge of AWS services and cloud systems.
