Embedded Security Engineer - Remote Position

About the Role

We're hiring an Embedded Security Engineer to join our growing team at Verkada. As an Embedded Security Engineer remote, you'll play a crucial role in protecting our fleet of physical security products from threats. You'll work closely with a talented team of security, firmware, and backend engineers to define the security and privacy roadmap for our devices.

What You'll Do

• Develop and drive security requirements for hardware and firmware to enhance the security of Verkada’s products.
• Build security tooling to ensure secure development best practices are followed.
• Perform red team/offensive assessments against firmware and devices.
• Triage and recommend solutions for security bugs identified through tools, third-party assessments, and bug bounties.
• Develop threat models and attack trees, and participate in security design and code reviews.
• Explore innovative solutions to enable Verkada's business while maintaining security principles.
• Collaborate with the CISO and security team to enhance the broader Verkada security program.
• Share your security expertise with other teams internally and externally through conferences and blogs.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
• 8+ years of experience as a security engineer, software engineer, or security consultant.
• Familiarity with security weaknesses, exploits, attacks, and mitigations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Deep knowledge of Linux-based operating system internals and network protocols.
• Knowledge of hardware security features such as secure boot, TrustZone, disk encryption, or mandatory access control.
• Working knowledge of cryptography around primitives, protocols, and applications.

• Experience with cloud security practices.
• Knowledge of AI-driven security solutions.
• Previous experience in a startup environment.
