Embedded Firmware Intern - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are excited to announce an opportunity for an Embedded Firmware Intern to join our innovative team at The Exploration Company. This Embedded Firmware Intern role offers a unique chance to work on the development of Nyx, our modular and reusable space orbital vehicle. You will be involved in creating firmware for microcontrollers used in custom emulator boards, contributing to the future of space exploration.

What You'll Do

• Develop and maintain embedded firmware for microcontroller-based emulator boards.
• Implement sensor and actuator emulation logic.
• Support the development of motor emulation functionality.
• Assist in firmware debugging, testing, and optimization.
• Collaborate with the hardware engineering intern to integrate firmware with new custom boards.
• Support the integration of emulator boards into Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing platforms.
• Investigate and resolve issues discovered during system validation.
• Contribute to documentation and code organization.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Basic experience with embedded C/C++ programming.
• Familiarity with microcontroller architectures.
• Understanding of embedded debugging techniques.

Nice to Have

• Experience with peripheral drivers (ADC, PWM, SPI, I2C, UART).
• Real-time or low-level embedded development experience.
• Familiarity with STM32 microcontrollers.
• Basic knowledge of sensor interfaces.
• Exposure to control systems or motor control is a plus.
