Director of Transformation Programme Office - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a Director of Transformation Programme Office to join the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) in a remote capacity. This pivotal leadership role will drive the success of MSD’s flagship transformation programme, ensuring effective oversight, integration, and delivery of programme management functions across the transformation initiative. As a Director of Transformation Programme Office, you will play a crucial role in shaping how we deliver services to New Zealanders for the next 30 years.

What You'll Do

• Lead the Transformation Programme Office, ensuring strong strategic direction and well-coordinated management functions.
• Embed consistent, transparent, and high-quality practices in planning, reporting, risk and issue management, and quality assurance.
• Develop and maintain a programme management practice that supports workstreams with planning, reporting, and project management capability.
• Build and maintain strong relationships across programme leadership, Strategic Programmes, and service change leads.
• Ensure workstream level roadmaps and plans align with desired programme outcomes and objectives.
• Identify dependencies and sequencing challenges while facilitating solutions and mitigation strategies.
• Influence leadership thinking and establish credibility as a future thinker.
• Foster a collaborative environment that values diverse perspectives and cultures.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a Transformation Office or as a Programme Director for large-scale programmes.
• Strong relationship-building skills across various stakeholders.
• Ability to provide an integrated programme-level view of critical initiatives.
• Experience in developing and maintaining a resourcing model for the programme.
• Proven ability to remove constraints and operate effectively with ambiguity.
• Experience in building teams and partnerships that recognize the value of diversity.

Nice to Have

• Experience in public sector transformation initiatives.
• Knowledge of social services in New Zealand.
• Familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
