Adult Education Teacher - Correctional Facility
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Adult Education Teacher to join our team at the Florida Department of Corrections. What You'll Do
- Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
- Supervise inmates in the classroom, conduct roll calls, and maintain attendance records.
- Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
- Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development.
- Assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.
- Be a part of our mission to provide quality education and support the rehabilitation of inmates.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
- Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
- Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire.
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in teaching and education.
- Ability to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.
Nice to Have
- Possession of a master’s degree may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.
- Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus.
