About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Adult Education Teacher to join our team at the Florida Department of Corrections. This position is based in Ocala, Florida, and is focused on providing quality education to inmates. As an Adult Education Teacher, you will play a crucial role in enhancing inmates' academic, vocational, and life skills, thus promoting their successful reintegration into society. What You'll Do

  • Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
  • Supervise inmates in the classroom, conduct roll calls, and maintain attendance records.
  • Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
  • Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
  • Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development.
  • Assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.
  • Be a part of our mission to provide quality education and support the rehabilitation of inmates.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
  • Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in teaching and education.
  • Ability to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.

Nice to Have

  • Possession of a master’s degree may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.
  • Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus.
