Team Leader Environmental Health Response - Remote Opportunity
About the Role
We're seeking a Team Leader Environmental Health Response to join Auckland Council in a remote capacity. This role is pivotal in leading a high-impact team dedicated to protecting the health and wellbeing of Aucklanders every day.
What You'll Do
- Lead a high-performing team across food safety, public health, hazardous substances, and noise control.
- Drive strategic public health initiatives that reduce risk and improve community outcomes.
- Ensure all work aligns with good regulatory practice and a risk-based regulating approach.
- Manage budgets and resources to deliver efficient, effective services.
- Provide expert guidance on complex environmental health issues and escalations.
- Champion cross-council collaboration and strengthen Auckland Council’s reputation.
- Uphold legislative compliance, including the Food Act, Health Act, RMA, and more.
Requirements
- A tertiary qualification in environmental health (or equivalent under the 1993 Regulations).
- 5+ years’ experience in environmental health or a related field.
- 3+ years’ leadership experience in an Environmental Health or similar environment.
- Strong legislative knowledge and the ability to interpret and apply it confidently.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga, and working within Māori paradigms.
- A current NZ driver licence.

Who Will Succeed Here

Strong remote leadership skills, demonstrating the ability to manage and motivate a geographically dispersed team while maintaining high levels of engagement and accountability through virtual collaboration tools like Slack and Zoom.
Experience in budget management and resource allocation within public health projects, with a strategic mindset for identifying funding opportunities and optimizing team performance to achieve health initiatives.
