Senior Hardware Design Engineer - Electrical for Satellite Payload (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer - Electrical to join our innovative team at SpaceX. This role focuses on the development of cutting-edge satellite payload systems for our Starlink project. As a Senior Hardware Design Engineer, you will work on high-reliability electronics for satellites and spacecraft, ensuring seamless connectivity for millions of users worldwide. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely while contributing to exciting advancements in aerospace technology.

What You'll Do

• Rapidly develop high-reliability electronics for satellites and spacecraft.
• Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, hardware bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, test, and on-orbit performance of complex electrical designs.
• Get hands-on and support hardware through production, satellite integration, and flight.
• Collaborate closely with engineers from adjacent disciplines (mechanical, thermal, software, test, supply chain, silicon design, RF and antenna) to deliver tightly integrated, high-performance hardware.
• Challenge assumptions, question requirements, learn from your mistakes, and approach problems with an open mind.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another STEM discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in the design and analysis of circuits, electronic products, or hardware.
• Strong understanding of mixed-signal circuit boards, including processors, FPGAs, Ethernet, multi-GHz SerDes, and RF signal chains.
• 3+ years of professional experience testing, troubleshooting, and debugging electronics.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a highly cross-functional role.

Nice to Have

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar engineering degree.
• Experience working on space-grade hardware.
