Senior Database Administrator - Remote Role with Cloud Focus
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join our dynamic team in a fully remote capacity. As a Senior Database Administrator (DBA), you will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing database systems across both on-premises and cloud environments. This role ensures database performance, availability, security, and scalability across multiple technologies, with a primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL, along with exposure to PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cosmos DB, and NoSQL databases. What You'll Do
- Install, configure, and manage Microsoft SQL Server and other database systems including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cosmos DB, and NoSQL databases.
- Administer and optimize Azure SQL databases, ensuring performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Monitor database health using tools such as ManageEngine Application Manager, Brent Ozar utilities, or similar monitoring tools.
- Perform query tuning, index management, and capacity planning for high-performance environments.
- Implement and manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery (HA/DR) processes.
- Enforce database security best practices, including access control, encryption, and compliance with organizational standards.
- Automate maintenance and operational tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or equivalent scripting tools.
- Collaborate with application, DevOps, and infrastructure teams on database design, partitioning, and scalability strategies.
- Support database performance optimization and troubleshooting across production environments.
- Exposure to EDW design, integration, or optimization will be beneficial but not mandatory.
Requirements
- 7–10 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server including installation, configuration, clustering, replication, Always On, and performance tuning.
- Proven experience with Azure and Azure SQL administration and optimization.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cosmos DB, flat-file, and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as ManageEngine Application Manager, Brent Ozar utilities, or similar tools.
- Proficiency in T-SQL and PowerShell scripting for automation and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of backup/recovery, high availability, disaster recovery (HA/DR), and database security practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (or equivalent certification) – required.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric and modern data platform technologies.
- Familiarity with Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW), ETL processes, or analytics workflows.
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized databases (Docker/Kubernetes).
