Senior Data Architect - Remote Role for Government of Alberta

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Data Architect to join our team in a fully remote capacity. This role is pivotal in leading the Government of Alberta’s data architecture initiatives, focusing on integrated application and reporting ecosystems. As a Senior Data Architect remote position, you will provide architectural and technical leadership across data models, governance, migration, and lakehouse design, ensuring high-quality, secure, and compliant data for business and analytics platforms.

What You'll Do

• Define end-to-end data architecture and design data models aligned with Microsoft Power Platform, Azure, Dataverse, and Dynamics 365.
• Lead data migration and data quality efforts, ensuring accurate lineage and transformations.
• Support reporting and analytics activities, including Power BI and governance initiatives.
• Guide platform teams in configuring data-platform services to meet solution requirements.
• Review and approve vendor-delivered data designs and implementations.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Data Architect remote with strong enterprise data architecture skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure data services, including Data Lake Storage, Synapse Analytics, and Databricks.
• Expertise in data migration and quality initiatives for large-scale projects.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills to translate complex data architecture concepts for stakeholders.
• Experience implementing data governance, security, and compliance controls aligned with public-sector policies.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with data-mesh or lakehouse architectures using Azure technology.
• Experience in Agile delivery cycles and providing architecture oversight.
• Knowledge of data classification and information lifecycle management practices.
