Senior Back-End/​Infra Engineer - Kubernetes & Node.js Remote

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Back-End/Infra Engineer (Kubernetes / Node.js remote) to join our team at Deel. As a leader in the global payroll and HR platform industry, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of work for teams worldwide. Your expertise will help us build robust infrastructure that supports our innovative services, allowing us to scale smarter and faster.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain the control plane that powers hundreds of dynamic developer sandboxes.
• Develop backend tooling and services that automate sandbox creation, orchestration, and lifecycle management.
• Productize and provide infrastructure as a platform, including databases, caches, object storage, and queuing systems.
• Scale and tune the cluster to provide capacity for volatile workloads, utilizing Karpenter, VPA, and KEDA policies.
• Constantly track and optimize costs to ensure efficiency at scale.
• Own the networking setup to mimic production environments while enhancing developer experience.
• Implement and evolve observability within sandboxes to ensure uptime and reliability.
• Collaborate with the Sandboxes SRE team to maintain the reliability of hundreds of sandboxes daily.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering.
• Strong backend engineering skills, including API design, Postgres, and Kafka/Nats.
• Proficiency in Node.js, Go, or Python.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Advanced experience with Kubernetes, including creating tools, controllers, or operators.
• Familiarity with standard Kubernetes tools such as ingress controllers, secret management, and cluster autoscaling.
• Experience with Helm charts and GitOps.
• Excellent system design and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience building internal developer platforms or Kubernetes operators.
• Production experience with Postgres Operators.
• Multi-region and multi-cloud experience.
