About the Role

We are seeking a Research Scientist in Aerosol and Cloud In-Situ Instrumentation to join our team at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder. This Research Scientist remote position will focus on developing and deploying advanced instrumentation to study atmospheric composition and its impacts on air quality and climate.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build research instrumentation to study aerosols in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (40%).
  • Integrate and deploy new or modified research instrumentation onto existing platforms for atmospheric sciences research (20%).
  • Prepare and interpret scientific data to address research questions (20%).
  • Present findings at scientific meetings and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals (10%).
  • Participate in remote field deployments to make atmospheric measurements, both in the US and abroad (10%).

Requirements

  • PhD in physics, chemistry, engineering, atmospheric science, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in research related to atmospheric sciences.
  • Hands-on experience with instrumentation/laboratory development, repair, or maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good writing and communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with instrument design and fabrication.
  • Expertise in aerosol microphysics and aerosol-cloud interactions.
  • Experience with data analysis and presentation of scientific results for meetings and publication in scientific journals.
