Research Assistant - Agronomy (Remote Opportunities)
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Research Assistant - Agronomy to join our team at Kentucky State University. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in agronomic research while contributing to significant projects in the field. As a Research Assistant - Agronomy remote position, you will support various research duties, including data collection and analysis, while working closely with the Principal Investigator and other team members.
What You'll Do
- Assist in leading experiments that examine carbon dynamics of reclaimed mined lands in Eastern Kentucky.
- Manage and maintain eddy covariance installations, ensuring data accuracy and reliability.
- Conduct soil sampling campaigns across Kentucky to support soil carbon model development.
- Perform laboratory and field experiments, including sample preparation and relevant measurements.
- Analyze datasets related to soil, water, and sediments using SWAT and other analytical tools.
- Support socio-economic research components through survey support and data analysis.
- Prepare publication-quality graphics, maps, and reports for dissemination of findings.
- Train and mentor students involved in research projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience with eddy covariance principles and data management.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and visualization tools.
- Knowledge of GIS and remote sensing technologies.
- Strong technical writing skills for reports and publications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- FAA Part 107 certification for sUAS drone flights is preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
Nice to Have
- Experience with social and socio-economic research.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety standards and protocols.
- Knowledge of QA/QC procedures in research environments.
