About the Role

We are seeking a Remote Data Analyst to join Global Fishing Watch, an innovative nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing ocean governance through transparency. In this role, you will work with a dynamic international team at the intersection of artificial intelligence, open data, ocean protection, and media engagement. As a Remote Data Analyst, you will help turn data into compelling stories and translate complex analyses into clear narratives that engage journalists and the public.

What You'll Do

  • Transform complex datasets into engaging, understandable narratives for media outreach.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to enhance Global Fishing Watch's media outreach capabilities.
  • Act as the technical expert for media relations related to Global Fishing Watch's data and tools, including the map, Vessel Viewer, and Marine Manager.
  • Lead quarterly media outreach initiatives to promote our mission and findings.
  • Support the development of content that highlights the impact of human activity at sea on ocean health.
  • Engage with journalists and media outlets to disseminate information effectively.
  • Monitor and analyze media coverage to evaluate the effectiveness of outreach efforts.
  • Contribute to the overall strategy for increasing public awareness of ocean conservation issues.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in data analysis, preferably in a media or nonprofit context.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in storytelling.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Experience working with media relations and outreach strategies.
  • Passion for ocean conservation and understanding of related issues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a remote team.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in data analysis.
  • Knowledge of ocean governance and fisheries management.
  • Familiarity with open data initiatives and tools.
