Playback Quality Engineer - Remote

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Playback Quality Engineer to join our innovative team at Versant Media. This fully remote position offers you the opportunity to ensure best-in-class playback performance across various platforms, including Web, iOS, Android, Roku, Smart TVs, and gaming consoles. As a Playback Quality Engineer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing user experience and reliability in our cross-platform video streaming ecosystem.

What You'll Do

• Own and expand our cross-platform player testing strategy with a strong emphasis on test automation, supplemented by manual testing.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable automated test suites to improve test coverage and reduce manual regression cycles.
• Validate different playback types such as TVOD, AVOD, Live, and DVR.
• Lead QA efforts across multiple platforms, ensuring consistent playback behavior and handling platform-specific edge cases.
• Review log files and runtime documentation to identify defects and issues, driving them to resolution.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in video playback streaming QA, with a strong understanding of streaming technologies like DRM, SCTE-35, and HLS.
• Experience developing automated test frameworks and familiarity with various automated test strategies.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to provide root cause analysis when necessary.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• A BS degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience with closed captioning and digital ad insertion technologies.
• Familiarity with analytics tools for playback performance.
• Knowledge of video player technologies and ad insertion workflows.
