About the Role

We are seeking a Mid-Senior Research Scientist - Propulsion Systems to join our team at Northrop Grumman. This role is pivotal in supporting missions critical to national and global security. As a Research Scientist, you will work in a dynamic environment focused on innovation and technological advancements. This position is based in Promontory, UT, and is not remote.

What You'll Do

  • Provide technical expertise and consultation on material issues, including material selection and tooling design.
  • Execute strong research and problem-solving capabilities in R&D and production support.
  • Support the development of ablative composite materials for nozzle configurations.
  • Conduct mechanical engineering and tooling design support for advanced programs.
  • Develop estimates and perform feasibility studies for advanced technology contracts.
  • Design improvements to tape wrap and support failure investigations.
  • Write instructions/planning for execution of fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  • Present data and recommendations to internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or related field with 5 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with 1 year of experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with composite and metal tooling design.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of nozzle designs and fabrication methods.
  • Previous laboratory and experimental experience.
  • Experience with aerospace materials and processing specifications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
