Mid-Senior Research Scientist - Propulsion Systems
About the Role
We are seeking a Mid-Senior Research Scientist - Propulsion Systems to join our team at Northrop Grumman. This role is pivotal in supporting missions critical to national and global security. As a Research Scientist, you will work in a dynamic environment focused on innovation and technological advancements. This position is based in Promontory, UT, and is not remote.
What You'll Do
- Provide technical expertise and consultation on material issues, including material selection and tooling design.
- Execute strong research and problem-solving capabilities in R&D and production support.
- Support the development of ablative composite materials for nozzle configurations.
- Conduct mechanical engineering and tooling design support for advanced programs.
- Develop estimates and perform feasibility studies for advanced technology contracts.
- Design improvements to tape wrap and support failure investigations.
- Write instructions/planning for execution of fabrication, assembly, and testing.
- Present data and recommendations to internal and external customers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or related field with 5 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with 1 year of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
- Experience with composite and metal tooling design.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of nozzle designs and fabrication methods.
- Previous laboratory and experimental experience.
- Experience with aerospace materials and processing specifications.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
