Mid-Senior Cryogenic Systems Engineer - Space Exploration

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Cryogenic Systems Engineer to join our team at The Exploration Company. This role is pivotal in the development of Nyx, our modular and reusable space orbital vehicle. As a Cryogenic Systems Engineer remote, you will be instrumental in designing and validating cryogenic fluid and propulsion-related systems, ensuring safe and efficient refueling operations in orbit.

What You'll Do

  • Contribute to the development of concepts and preliminary architectures for cryogenic fluid transfer and storage systems operating in orbit.
  • Support the definition of cryogenic fluid management and refueling system requirements, contributing to system requirement flow-down.
  • Perform preliminary pressure drops, flowrate, and pressurization analyses to ensure system performance under microgravity conditions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including thermal, GNC, and software engineers, to assess the feasibility and safety of cryogenic subsystems.
  • Participate in architecture trade-offs, requirement flow-down, and early breadboard or test planning.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in the space sector, particularly in early development phases (Phase 0/A/B).
  • Strong understanding of cryogenic fluid systems and propulsion-related architectures.
  • Proficiency with engineering analysis tools (e.g., EcosimPro, ANSYS, FLOW-3D) or custom Python/Matlab scripts.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of German, French, or Italian is a plus.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with space engineering standards (ECSS, NASA, or equivalent).
  • Experience with system engineering practices (requirements, interfaces, V&V).
