Mid-Level Software Engineer - Rust for Crypto Infrastructure

About the Role

We are seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer - Rust for Crypto Infrastructure to join our dynamic team at Kraken. As a fully remote company, we have Krakenites in over 70 countries, working together to build the future of crypto. In this role, you will design and implement robust Rust services that power Kraken’s core infrastructure, ensuring security, scalability, and maintainability.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement foundational libraries and services in Rust, prioritizing correctness and security.
• Write reusable, testable, and efficient code optimized for production environments.
• Collaborate on large-scale distributed systems architecture to support global trading.
• Contribute to a high-bar engineering culture alongside experienced Rust engineers.
• Debug issues across the stack autonomously, including OS, network, and application layers.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in building and scaling shared systems.
• Proficiency in writing network services or asynchronous code in Rust.
• Demonstrated commitment to a security-first mindset when designing systems.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies such as RPC protocols, Kafka, and Event Driven Systems.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a remote environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, etc.).
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices.
