Mechanical Engineer II - Warhead Design and Production
About the Role
We are hiring a Mechanical Engineer II - Warhead Design and Production to join our innovative team at Kraken Kinetics. This Mechanical Engineer II remote position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design and production of advanced kinetic solutions for modern warfighting capabilities. You will play a crucial role in supporting the design, integration, and production of mechanically complex defense systems.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies related to warhead systems, ensuring compliance with stringent military standards.
- Define and maintain mechanical interfaces between warhead assemblies and electronic enclosures, ensuring proper fit and structural integrity.
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineering teams to establish mechanical keep-in/keep-out zones and packaging constraints.
- Create and maintain detailed 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using SolidWorks, adhering to internal configuration management practices.
- Support production teams by designing jigs, fixtures, and tooling used in assembly and testing operations.
- Participate in design reviews and iterative problem-solving under compressed development timelines.
- Evaluate new vendors and materials to enhance performance and manufacturability.
- Contribute to the improvement of mechanical engineering processes and documentation as the team scales.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 2-5 years of relevant industry experience in mechanical design or product development.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and assembly creation.
- Strong understanding of mechanical fundamentals, including tolerancing and materials.
- Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams, particularly alongside electrical engineers.
- Ability to work effectively under tight schedules and shifting priorities.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset and strong communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with SolidWorks 3DEXPERIENCE or PLM systems.
- Familiarity with production support activities and tooling design.
- Background in defense, aerospace, or highly regulated engineering environments.
