Legal Counsel - Insurance Law Specialist (Remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Legal Counsel (Remote) to join Munich Re Specialty – Global Markets (MRS-GM). This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you will act as a trusted advisor on various legal matters related to (re)insurance law. As a Legal Counsel, you will provide essential legal support and guidance to our teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks while fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

What You'll Do

• Advise on (re)insurance law issues including wordings, delegation, and distribution contracts.
• Support commercial and product teams with regulatory considerations for new products and emerging areas.
• Provide legal assistance in contentious matters, including non-claims litigation and investigations.
• Collaborate with compliance teams on regulatory and sanctions matters.
• Work with Munich Re Corporate Underwriting and other legal teams to implement group guidelines.
• Maintain wordings and processes in accordance with group-wide policies.
• Develop training materials and template contracts to enhance legal knowledge across the business.
• Contribute to improving processes for delivering legal advice efficiently, including the use of AI.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with PQE in (re)insurance law, preferably with experience in private practice.
• Strong background in insurance and insurance regulatory law.
• Comprehensive understanding of the UK insurance industry and Lloyd’s.
• Excellent research and analytical skills with the ability to deliver concise legal analysis.
• Proficient drafting and negotiation skills for standard and bespoke documentation.
• Strong communication skills to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively on complex legal matters.
• Commercially aware with a focus on efficiency and timely delivery of legal services.

Nice to Have

• In-house experience in a legal role within the insurance sector.
• Familiarity with international insurance markets.
• Experience in training and developing legal staff.
