Lead Data Engineer - Remote Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join our dynamic team at hackajob, collaborating with Hippo Digital UK. This remote Lead Data Engineer position offers a unique opportunity to lead multi-disciplinary teams in building user-centered digital solutions that provide real value. As a Lead Data Engineer, you will leverage your expertise to drive technical deliverables and maintain strong client relationships while fostering the development of your team.

What You'll Do

• Act as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME), ensuring user-centered software is developed based on business requirements and best practices.
• Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver innovative solutions to client challenges.
• Maintain client relationships and troubleshoot issues through effective collaboration.
• Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines, proactively resolving potential bottlenecks.
• Continuously review and prioritize the delivery team's workload, adapting to evolving operational priorities.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, presenting prototypes and solutions clearly.
• Lead recruitment efforts for new engineers and support the professional development of consultants.
• Contribute strategically to Hippo’s Data and Engineering communities, promoting new business opportunities.

Requirements

• Proven experience in Python and at least one other core programming language.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and relational databases; familiarity with NoSQL databases is a plus.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Solid background in working with Snowflake and dbt.
• Expertise in building reliable data pipelines and data modeling.
• Experience in Agile environments and familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of articulating technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and manage stakeholder expectations.

Nice to Have

• Experience in coaching and mentoring team members.
• Broader knowledge of IT, including security and networking.
• Experience in writing technical bids and proposals.
