Junior Software Engineer - Remote Position

About the Role

We are seeking a Junior Software Engineer to join our team at GovCIO. This remote position is perfect for recent graduates or those with up to two years of experience who are eager to learn and grow in the field of software engineering. As a Junior Software Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to transforming government IT through innovative solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Engage in standard software engineering duties including building, coding, and testing applications using both legacy and modern technologies.
  • Participate in the planning and deployment of software systems while ensuring compliance with software standards.
  • Design graphical user interfaces (GUIs) tailored to user needs, enhancing the overall user experience.
  • Prepare operating instructions and compile documentation for program development.
  • Analyze system capabilities to address questions regarding program intent and output requirements.
  • Work within Agile frameworks and contribute to Development Scrums using tools like Jira and Slack.
  • Learn to leverage industry frameworks to support test automation and continuous development efforts.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or MS Azure.
  • Exposure to relational database management systems like MongoDB, MySQL, or MS SQL Server.
  • Ability to work with productivity tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Jira, and Slack.
  • Strong interest in remote work opportunities in Development & Programming.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance.

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience through internships or part-time work in software development.
  • Familiarity with both Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with collaboration tools like MS Teams, Zoom, and Outlook.
