Junior Information Security Specialist - Remote

About the Role

We are seeking a Junior Information Security Specialist to join our team remotely. In this role, you will provide IT systems security support in compliance with NIST standards, ensuring the security and integrity of our information systems.

What You'll Do

• Support the Governance program as an advisor to system/application owners, ensuring the implementation of the NIST Security Framework.
• Assist in data type selection and system categorization according to FIPS 199.
• Coordinate and conduct vulnerability scans, analyzing results to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Facilitate pre-assessment meetings with stakeholders to ensure thorough preparation for security assessments.
• Provide policy guidance on IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS implementations in cloud environments.
• Create and review system security documents to ensure compliance with security requirements.
• Analyze Plans of Actions and Milestones (POA&M) and provide remediation solutions and cost estimates.
• Document weekly/monthly labor distribution reports, detailing time spent on various activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Math, or Science.
• At least three years of relevant experience in IT security projects under government contracts.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize data effectively.
• Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented.
• Proficient in Microsoft Tools.
• US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance.

Nice to Have

• Experience with NIST 800 series Special Publications.
• Familiarity with FedRAMP and FIPS guidelines.
• Knowledge of cloud security practices.
