Freelance Illustrator - Graphic Novel Style for Education

About the Role

IXL Learning is seeking a talented Freelance Illustrator to join our curriculum team. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely and create engaging educational content that will be used by millions of learners worldwide. As a Freelance Illustrator, you will collaborate closely with curriculum designers to produce visually appealing illustrations that enhance online learning materials.

What You'll Do

• Create engaging illustrations with a stylized, graphic-novel approach for IXL's educational products.
• Maintain visual consistency and adhere to established style guidelines.
• Effectively manage multiple illustration projects under tight deadlines.
• Revise images based on feedback from curriculum designers to ensure quality and relevance.
• Utilize strong craftsmanship and illustration skills to produce clean, raster images.
• Optionally create kid-friendly, flat vector artwork to complement illustrations.
• Source and manipulate images from stock libraries like Shutterstock when necessary.
• Communicate ideas clearly through sketches, verbal communication, and written formats.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an illustrator or graphic designer, particularly for online content.
• Strong proficiency with Adobe Suite, especially Photoshop; Illustrator skills are a plus.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple design requests efficiently and meet deadlines.
• A degree in Illustration, Graphic Design, or a related field is preferred.

Nice to Have

• Experience in the education sector or creating educational materials.
• Familiarity with creating illustrations for children.
• Experience with sourcing and manipulating images from Shutterstock.
