About the Role

We're hiring an Entry-Level Societal Impacts Research Scientist to join our team at Anthropic. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our AI systems are safe and beneficial for society. As a Societal Impacts Research Scientist, you will analyze real-world usage patterns of our AI model, Claude, and contribute to improving its behavior through research and collaboration.

What You'll Do

• Utilize observational tools like Clio to analyze how users interact with Claude, focusing on safety and quality of advice.
• Build and run evaluations to assess Claude's behavior across key dimensions of its Constitution.
• Collaborate with fine-tuning, safeguards, policy, and interpretability teams to translate research insights into actionable model improvements.
• Generate insights about the societal impact of our AI systems and inform company strategy and policy positions.
• Share your findings through research publications and presentations, enhancing the understanding of AI systems among policymakers and civil society.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with machine learning systems and a genuine interest in societal impacts research.
• Strong communication skills for writing up and presenting results.
• Ability to adapt and contribute to evolving team priorities.
• Passion for translating research insights into actionable recommendations for improving AI systems.
